OS X and A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile)

THE FACTS
For those not familar with A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) its basically an audio profile for bluetooth devices so that they may send a stereo signal to a headset or headphones. In theory a device such as a pda or mp3 with an A2DP stack built in can eliminate the need for wired headphones.

THE PROBLEM
Apple at the forefront of bluetooth intergration has equipped nearly all of its computers with built-in bluetooth. The profile which exists allows the use of blue tooth mice, headsets, keyboards, gps recievers and cellular phones to allow data tethering. The problem lies is that Apple has failed to include A2DP in the bluetooth stack. Which leaves all of the users with blue tooth headphones in the dust, with only the choice of using an ugly usb dongle sticking out the side of your laptop. I find it hard to believe that I can use A2DP with my pocket pc and my windows box and not OS x.

THE PLEA
Please Apple remedy the situation. You cant expect us to actually plug things into our brand new Macbooks....... except for those cool magsafe plugs. If anyone has any info or just some general insight feel free to post we need this fixed asap.

Why give it away for free, when you can charge for it: It seems you will have to buy OS X 10.5. 'Leopard' for A2DP support. There are some reports about files containing A2DP in the Leopard beta.
I bet they will even dare to introduce this a a great new feature.
This really sucks..

I found a way to add A2DP audio streaming to my Mac. A company called Cadmus Micro makes a 3.5mm jack Bluetooth audio transmitter that streams the audio from any line out port. It works great with my A2DP headset. You can check it out at http://www.cadmusmicro.com/products_mhsbtc.htm
